Australia’s famous squeaky white sand beach on the Prom’s eastern granite coast. Easy access, huge summer popularity, and genuine swim-and-rock-hop appeal when conditions are safe. Pair with Norman Beach or a short lookout rather than stacking every hard walk the same day.
Do not pair: Do not make Squeaky + Mount Oberon + Three Bays all non-negotiable on the same first day. If Oberon emptied the tank, Norman is the honest beach.
Turnaround: If the lot is full, execute Plan B (Norman Beach) immediately. Do not wait in hope while blocking access. If swell or rips look wrong, sand and granite photos still count — skip the swim.

Signed access from the Tidal River road network. Short walk from parking to the sand. Granite headlands and rock pools frame the beach — stay off fragile dunes and respect any fenced rehabilitation.

- From Tidal River follow signs toward Squeaky Beach (eastern beaches corridor).
- Peak summer parking is competitive — arrive early or visit midweek.
- Day entry is free; do not park illegally or block emergency access.

- Walk to the sand and listen — dry quartz sand really does squeak underfoot when conditions are right.

Why this beach dominates “Prom photos”
Squeaky Beach is one of the three experiences most people associate with Wilsons Promontory alongside Tidal River camping and Mount Oberon views. Dry quartz sand can squeak underfoot; granite boulders frame turquoise water on clear days. That combination is why parking fights start early in January.
The squeak is a natural effect of fine rounded grains when dry — wet sand may squeak less. That is not a defect in the beach. It is physics, not a park special effect.
Swimming realism

Squeaky vs Norman (quick)
Norman Beach wins for proximity to Tidal River facilities and low-friction family time. Squeaky wins for the famous sand and postcard granite frames — with more parking friction in peaks.

Arrive early or visit midweek. Carpool. Do not park on vegetation or block emergency access. Vehicle limits park-wide are real — your beach plan sits inside the same congestion system as camping and Oberon logistics.
Shade, water and a time limit beat “just one more hour” sunburn. Granite glare multiplies UV even when the breeze feels cool.
Leave no trace on an icon beach
Sand, shells and rock stay. Rubbish leaves with you. Stay off fenced rehabilitation and dune vegetation — shortcuts for photos multiply damage across thousands of visitors.
Drones are restricted or prohibited as published. Dogs are not casual visitor options. Wildlife on approaches is not a picnic prop — distance and no feeding.
