Every itinerary defers to Parks Victoria for track status, camping bookings, vehicle limits and alerts. Overnight circuit miles only appear where the plan names them — and only after you hold official camp bookings and live open-track status.

Long day (12–16 hours house-to-house from Melbourne)

Classic day trip: Melbourne → Tidal River icons

Best for: First visit without overnight booking — ambitious but common

Pre-dawn Melbourne departure, early park arrival, Mount Oberon or Squeaky + Norman combination, hard exit time before fatigue driving. Peak summer vehicle limits make “arrive after lunch” a poor plan.

Full day at an easy pace (best with Tidal River or nearby base)

Family easy day: Norman Beach + short highlights

Best for: Kids, grandparents, first camp night, low-stress Prom introduction

Norman Beach as the anchor, optional short lookout or Squeaky Beach if energy allows, wildlife watching at distance, early wind-down. No summit heroics.

Mount Oberon + beaches day

Best for: Fit first-timers with one solid hiking day

Early Oberon summit, lunch reset, Squeaky Beach afternoon, Norman Beach sunset. The classic high-satisfaction combo when weather cooperates.

Southern Circuit introduction (planning skeleton)

Best for: Parties already competent at multi-day coastal hiking

Booked hikers camps, self-sufficient packing, live track status (including Sealers Cove boardwalk realities), conservative daily distances. Not a first Prom visit.

Shoulder-season explorer (quieter Prom)

Best for: Walkers who can travel outside summer school holidays

Cooler air, fewer vehicle dramas, mix of Oberon, Lilly Pilly, Pillar Point and beaches. Still book camping early for long weekends.
